Improving My Credit Score/Getting a Personal loan?

I checked my Credit Score for the first time today. My score is 637. I currently have two Bank accounts(checking), and a Credit Card. I'm leaving to go out of the country on vacation in 4 weeks. I will be in Europe for a month, and I'm getting married next year. I have contemplated getting a small personal loan for the trip. I have saved up quite a bit, but would like to have a little cushion for emergencies etc. I have tried to apply for a retail credit card, and have not been approved(5 months ago). Perhaps getting a personal loan for my vacation will also help my credit score once it's paid off. Could you please give me some suggestions on how to improve my credit score, and how to go about getting a personal loan. As I would like for it to have more of a history before I get married, and make our first big purchase together. All suggestions/advice are appreciated. Just for further information. I am just starting out with my credit. So I believe that I do not have "bad" credit, I just don't have much of a history. Also, I do not trust the e-mail addresses provided in some of the responses...What is the correct way to go about getting a loan. Should I use my bank(Regions), or credit card issuer(Capital One)? Also, are there any other Secured Lenders that I can contact, via face to face?

You probably aren't going to like my answer... but I think getting yourself INTO debt in order to increase your credit score is not the right thing to do. You will be much better off financially if you can learn to live within your means (except for housing)... if you can learn this at an early age and start saving you can be fairly well off by the time you are in your 50s. check out Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover and his Financial Peace University... if you can go see him in person, that is motivating, too... also you can listen to him on many radio stations, as well as XM radio... following his plan has totally changed our financial life... we have a MUCH nicer home now, better credit scores and just all around better life... and it turned around in a relatively short period of time once we got serious about changing our way of living. There used to be a time when it was very difficult and perhaps even impossible to get a personal loan if one had bad credit. Many people think that still holds true todayBut what more and more lenders are starting to realize is that bad credit does not occur for the same reasons across the board.
A personal loan will Not help your credit score, it will make it worse. If you have a car that you can secure the loan with, it would be better for your credit rating. I would suggest not taking a loan for this and keeping your credit card balance below 25% of your credit line.
