Will a 597 credit score help me become a police officer?
Hey, I'm just wondering if a 597 credit score will help or affect the decision of a local police department in which I'm applying for??

- Being a police office and your credit score are two separate issues. There are poor police officers around too!
- I don't think that would be a problem.. They look at your back ground check to see if u have a felony or things like that..
- no it doesn't affect possibility of becoming a police officer, it's the physical test and lie detector test you have to worry about......i guess if anything, it might depend what state you're in, but in texas i know it's not a problem
- It won't help you - but I don't think it will kill you either. I think they will just be looking for the big red flags. Evictions, BK, foreclosure, judgements, chilt support liens, etc. They will likely not care that you had a dispute with the book of the month club or that you missed a Sears payment...
- they don't look at credit scores, but past employers, family and friends
- No. The hiring dept will be more interested in your background check and verifying that you don't have a long rap sheet.
- does your credit have anything to do with being a cop?
