Credit repaid takes time and if you need an apartment now there is very little you can do. If you want advice on repairing you credit you can post a new question with an explanation of your situation but generally it is not something you can do fast. Getting an apartment with bad credit is hard but not impossible. You are probably better off looking to get a rental from a private lender or a very small company where the person you are dealing with still has some discretion. With large rental companies the person you are dealing with has no power to assess the situation. If you can get someone with good credit to help you by co-signing or putting their name on the lease that would be a great help. You can also try to offer to pay a larger deposit. This is sometimes not allowed by legislation but if it is a private renter it will just be between you and them. That way they have a few months as collateral. A last option is to go the executive suite or stripper motel route. They are pretty much at opposite extremes but you don't need good credit for either. Executive suites are expensive but they are month to month so credit is usually not relevent and the same for stripper motels.
