  1. Store cards are sometimes more difficult to get than general purpose credit cards and if you apply and are denied, the hard inquiry into your credit report for the purpose of establishing credit dings your score. It doesn't matter if you are granted a card or denied, it's the inquiry that does it. As far as the easiest to get, Walmart's card, funded by GE Money Bank used to have pretty liberal standards. Whether this is still true or not with things the way they are with the economy, I don't know. You should definitely not apply for credit at Sears, Pennys, Macys, Target.
  2. When I was 18 I got 2 credit cards. One for gas and one for food. I paid in full each month and got top scores. Never paid a penny interest- that's the secret. Applying does ding your score. Inquiries at 10% of your fico and can last for 6 weeks, although they show up on the reports for longer. 20 inquries will wipe out that 10% - not really that much Keep using your current card. If you have a balance - pay it to 0, watch the score go up. And during the month, never use more than 30% of your available limit. \ Carrying balances can destroy your credit - and in some cases destroy your life. /
  3. Another great suggest would be to apply for a secure credit card, secured by your funds. If you can save up a substantial amount of money for your credit limit, use the card, pay on time or before time, and then watch your credit get better. I would also suggest you not apply for other credit until your credit scores get better. Constantly applying for credit, will pull your score down. Ther first thing you should do is get your credit report via your annualcreditreport.com for free from the three big credit bureaus. Armed with this info you will have a better chance at analyzing your credit history. Without this info you are shooting in the dark.
  4. There is a MUCH better way to build larger credit lines, faster and without going into ANY debt: $10,000 Credit Builder - A unique way to build large credit without going into debt. A $10,000 loan is funded and put into an account with your name on it. Small monthly payments are accepted and reported to credit reporting agencies. On the second month you authorize the finance company to pay down 70% of the loan from your account and it is reported as $3000 balance. In the third month you authorize the finance company to pay down more of the loan principal from your account and it is reported as having a $1000 balance on the loan. The results are that you have paid down a $10,000 loan in about 90 days to 10% of the original start amount thus adding strength to your credit profile and score. Continue making interest only payments for 3 more months then use the remaining monies in your account to pay off the loan. (6 Month total)This is great for new credit profiles and re-establishing credit. dave@45credit.com
