How can I raise my credit score from 520 to 750?
Hello, I am in the process of buying a house in the next year, and I was just curious if anybody know how I can raise my credit score from 520 to 750 in the next year? Is this possible? I do have a few collections, and student loans (in default), but should I pay these first, or what steps should I take? Any help is appreciated

- In a year.... no, thats not possible. It usually takes about 2 years after all debts are paid off, and credit is maintained, for your score to reflect the changes.

- There is no way you can raise it that quickly. Your FICO score is largely based on how much credit you have, how long you have had it for, paying on time, and the ratio of credit used versus credit available. With collections it will take you from a few to several years to raise it that much to get from Fair to Excellent. You'll never reach 750 until the collections are gone from your credit record which can be up to 7 years and your loans are paid on time for at least a couple years.
