How can I rent an apartment or house with bad credit?

I have bad credit. Live in Los Angeles. I've been at my new job for the last 3 months and I will be here for a long time. My salary is $2500/month but with commissions I take home anywhere between $5-10k/Month. At this point price or down payment is not so much of a concern to me given that I make respectable income however how do you I show or find someone to work with me? Help!

  1. It sounds like your making enough money to fix your credit. You should fix it and then this won't be a problem for you. Until then I suggest you rent a room from someone. You will save money...to pay off your debts....and you don't need to stress over what to do! Good luck!
  2. I have the same problem as you and have never successfully found someone to work with me. These days they want to be certain the rent is going to be paid. What I did was find a good friend and put the lease in his name. Try that, it worked for me.
  3. Credit is not as important when you're renting -- as long as you're renting something that is affordable to you (i.e. less than 1/3rd of your income). Worse case, a landlord may require you to pay a higher security deposit. Collections to prior landlords and evictions are bigger issues than credit. It's renters' market, so don't get intimidated. Renting is not like buying.
  4. Yes credit can effect you for renting. If you have other rentals listed on your credit bureau then it makes renting a new place difficult. Usually you can get in anyhow by paying more deposit or paying first and last months rent. I suggest paying off any rentals that are listed on your credit bureau.
