Will getting more credit cards increase my credit score?

Since the fico score is partially dependent upon the ratio of how much credit you have available to how much debt you have, will getting another credit card with a 3 to 5k limit increase my score. I do not even plan on using it but would it help my score. I have 2 credit cards right now. I pay them off every month in full if i even use them.

  1. Having a third card will slightly increase your credit score after the initial ding for the application. Make sure you make a purchase on it occasionally rather than letting it sit open. There is a difference. Be careful though extending yourself with too much available credit, when individuals have too high of a credit availability, it makes them a risk for going on a spending spree.
  2. If you PIF every month, the your utilization remains at 0%, whether you have $2500 in credit lines or $250,000 ;) BUT, FICO does like to see a mix in cards and every professional I know suggests a minimum of 3-5 cards to show a healthy mix and ability to manage credit across multiple lines. If by chance you want to carry a balance, having the extra cards will keep your utilization down, and utilization accounts for 30% of your FICO score. From experience, it seems FICO likes less than 10% utilization before your scores start taking a hit. Good luck!
  3. Having too many credit cards can actually lower your credit score.
  4. I have carried but 2 credit cards all my life and have near perfect credit scores. You do not need a wallet full of cards to have a good credit score just good spending and payment habits.
  5. Thats all you need
  6. Having more lines of credit open will increase your score. I only had one credit card and opened another and my score went up several points. The card I got was great too because it gives me 5% cash back on all purchases. I got it from the website below.
