- Well, obviously the most reasonable thing to do is cut your legs off. Yep. Cut your legs off.
- If debt consolidation isn't an option then Bankruptcy is your next step. After that then you can work on rebuilding your credit.
- Try to avoid declaring bankruptcy at all costs as that will negatively effect your credit for years to come. Contact the companies you owe and see if they can come up with a new repayment schedule for you - maybe lowering the interest rate for a period of time? Other than that contact the Citizen's Advise Bureau to see if they have any debt advice for you or if they know of any free debt counselling services.
- I thought I would never advise someone to file bankrupcy but here is a scenerio: my husband is 44 I am 39. This is our 2nd marriage for both of us. He and his first wife filed bankrupcy, I never have! He has wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better credit then I do! Thats just something I don't understand and don't think I ever will. My as well file, doesn't seem like it hurts people anymore............but good luck to you no matter what you choose because you'll wonder what if with regards to the choice you don't make!
- Change you name and go live in a caravan at the coast they`ll not find you there.
- Well you have probably made up your mind for you. First question would be is what kind of jobs are you capable of getting. If you are capable of making more 15/hr then I would say you should consolidate your debt and work out a payment plan. Another option is to contact your creditors once you have some money then offer to settle your debt for a reduced amount. You send them a check for a reduced amount, usually 20% of the debt and mark the check "Payment in Full", by law if they cash the check then they are accepting the terms. Also request that they make an entry into your account stating that you paided the debt in full. If you do not see yourself making 15/hr or above then the best thing to do is to declare bankrupty. I'm sorry but I hope you are not in this category. Third, credit card debt only remains on your credit report for seven years. So as long as you haven't made a payment or told them that you were going to pay then I would wait it out. Later...
- You have my sympathy, if it is as you say not self inflicted. The only thing I can suggest is the citizens advice people, but ask for an appointment with a financial specialist, sorry can't be of any more help than that. Good luck!
- The stigma that was attached to bankrupcy has faded somewhat. You would probably be discharged after one year and if you have no income you would not be expected to make any payments. It will cost you I think £485 to file. Your other option could be a debt management plan until you get yourself back earning again, if you dont have too many creditors you could write to them asking to make token payments to an amount you can afford and freeze interest, but this wont stop them chasing you if they want to. As for credit it will rebuild itself but may take some time after bankrupcy but in all honesty and I too have learnt to buy what I can pay for and if you have no debt you can save.
- and now for some practical advice. citizens advice bureau. they have some wonderful debt people. They might recommend banruptcy, but it will only be as a last resort. What they can do is come up with other options. if your creditors know you are taking it seriously (the citizens advice ringing them up to discuss it tends to prove that point to them) then they will bend over backwards to stop you going bankrupt. After all if they help they get some of their money, if they dont they could lose the lot. and 17,000 isnt alot, you want to look at bankruptcy when you have another 0 on the end. bankruptcy is hard, I know it no longer has the stigma attached to it it used to have, but you lose EVERYTHING. you lose your home, your bank account, your ability to live you own life. if you have a nice car, you sell it and buy a nail, the money goes to the receiver to divvy up between your creditors. if someone (god forbid) dies and leaves you a legacy (parents tend to do this) you see none of it, it goes to the receiver who divvys it up between your creditors. need i go on. CITIZENS ADVICE - NOW !!!!!
- Opt for a debt consolidation loan: The easiest method of getting a debt consolidation loan is to utilize the equity of your home. Equity of your home is calculated and determined by the difference in the amount you have paid and the amount you owe. If the amount you have paid is more than the amount due, you can use it as collateral. This allows you to borrow money on lower interest rates. Besides, you also get tax benefit on this type of loan. Consult your tax advisor before opting for this loan.
